MATT'S WORK IN THE CONSTITUENCY AND IN PARLIAMENT
Campaigns & Local Priorities
Safer Roads in Tutshill
I recently visited local residents and teachers from Tutshill School who have been tirelessly campaigning for improved road safety, especially for children walking to school.
I fully support their campaign to urge Gloucestershire County Council to install a permanent zebra crossing, reduce the speed limit outside the school, and introduce speed cameras.
Urgent Funding for Forest High
When I visited SGS Forest High School, I saw firsthand the challenges students and staff face due to the school’s deteriorating infrastructure. From collapsing ceilings to inadequate heating and damaged flooring, the current state of the building is simply unacceptable for the students who deserve a safe and conducive learning environment.
I’ve written to the Minister for Early Education, Stephen Morgan, to request urgent government funding for repairs and improvements. Our children should not have to endure such conditions, and I am committed to ensuring they get the resources they need.
Improving SEND Provision
Recent UK Parliament data revealed that the Forest has the highest percentage of mainstream pupils receiving Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support in Gloucestershire.
I’ve written to the County Council, urging them to increase funding and improve provisions for SEND support in the Forest of Dean. There is an urgent need for more provisions to ensure every child receives the tailored support they deserve to thrive.
National Issues
Tackling Potholes & Road Safety
I recently met with Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander to discuss Labour’s plans to fix the nation’s broken roads and tackle the pothole crisis, which has been a longstanding issue in the Forest of Dean. Our roads have suffered enough, and it’s time for change.
I am actively reporting potholes to Gloucestershire County Council and pushing for urgent repairs. If you spot a pothole or road issue, I encourage you to report it directly to GCC via their website. Together, we can ensure safer, smoother roads for our community.
Children's Wellbeing & Schools
For the past few weeks, I’ve been honoured to serve on the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill Committee — a small group of MPs dedicated to scrutinising and amending the legislation to ensure it delivers the maximum positive impact.
I’m proud to bring the views and concerns of my constituents into these important discussions and to see the Bill successfully pass through the committee stage!
Labour's Water Bill
For too long, water companies have failed to deliver for customers and the environment, while the Conservatives turned a blind eye to illegal sewage polluting our rivers, seas and lakes.
I voted for Labour’s Water (Special Measures) Bill which will hold water companies accountable, tackle pollution, and ban bonuses for executives who fail on environmental and consumer standards. Labour is delivering on our promise to clean up Britain's waterways.

ABOUT MATT
I am committed to ensuring that your voice is heard and that the Forest of Dean gets the improvements it deserves. Regardless of how you voted, I am here to serve you and am always available for support or guidance.
Since 2007, the Forest of Dean has been home to my family. I've dedicated my career to public service, working in the Police Force, Education, Children’s Social Care, and Social Housing, gaining valuable insights into the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals.
I take pride in advocating for the Forest of Dean, securing vital local victories and raising key issues. My priorities are focused on key issues including protecting the River Wye, improving road safety, supporting education, addressing rural funding disparities, and enhancing flood resilience and broadband coverage.
